Jacob Haas
At Petersburg, the soldiers finally sense that victory is coming. Jacob Haas of the 51st regiment of Virginia described the feeling that he had during the battle of Petersburg. "In about 24 hours there had arrived at the point 22 full regiments and some numbered 13 companies, the boys all in good cheer for a close of the war soon as things are in our favor." Jacob Haas and his army fought for a long time in the battle of Petersburg. When they finally stared to redeem themselves, they began to win. Haas and his fellow soldiers had an instinct that they would win the entire Civil War soon. The soldiers were filled with hope when Haas says "all in good cheer for a close of the war soon as things are in our favor" because the soldiers yearned for victory, furthermore, they wanted the war to end. One victory gave soldiers the idea that the rain of terror, death, and sadness would come to a close. 9 moths of fighting and perseverance crowned the Civil War champions, and this feeling was held in the later battles of the war. In the Battle of Petersburg, victory was sensed by all of the soldiers.
